Students from IES Las Viñas celebrate Tree Day

-

Prebetong Áridos, a company belonging to Votorantim Cimentos, has celebrated the Day of Trees, Aggregates and Biodiversity with around 50 first-year ESO (secondary school) pupils from I.E.S. Las Viñas de Manilva. The schoolchildren visited the company’s quarry in the municipality and helped to plant trees in one of the areas undergoing restoration.

This initiative, organised by the Asociación Nacional de Empresarios Fabricantes de Áridos (ANEFA), has as its main aim to convey the importance of this raw material, as well as the sector’s commitment to the environment and society.

The participating students can learn first-hand how aggregates are extracted, what they are used for, and how biodiversity is protected at extraction sites, as well as helping to plant trees for the restoration of quarries and gravel pits.

Juan Carlos Marín, director of Concrete, Aggregates and Mortar for the southern zone at Prebetong, said that “these visits offer a unique opportunity to combine practical knowledge of where aggregates come from – sands, gravels and crushed rock – and of their production process, with taking part in improving our biodiversity and landscapes”
