A group of hooded individuals raided a house in Manilva on the night of last Thursday. The thieves entered the property and stole the keys to two cars, which they drove off within minutes, with some of those involved fleeing in them.
The alert reached the Guardia Civil and all patrols were put on alert. Shortly afterwards, at one in the morning, officers in Cádiz spotted them in the province and, after they fled, a chase began. The officers went after them, and the criminals were forced to abandon one of the vehicles.
According to sources consulted, the risk taken was significant, as when they abandoned the car they were about to drive the wrong way along the A-381, the Los Barrios dual carriageway, a road with very heavy traffic. The vehicle, a Seat Altea, was recovered and returned to its owner in perfect condition. An investigation has been opened to identify and arrest the assailants.
Many of these thefts in the areas of Málaga and Cádiz close to the Campo de Gibraltar are linked to the use of these same cars for drug trafficking. The seizure of vehicles reported as stolen is common, and they are even sometimes completely modified to increase their capacity for carrying bundles of hashish. These are usually off-road vehicles, but other models are also stolen to be used as lookout vehicles or to take part in other crimes.
