The announcement was made today by the PSOE provincial deputy, Isabel Ruiz, who visited the municipality together with the Socialist spokesperson, Diego Jiménez, and the PSOE spokesperson on the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, Víctor Navas.
Ruiz explained that the PSOE has submitted a motion to the Provincial Council, at the request of the Manilva Socialists, for the provincial institution to continue funding the construction of the second phase of the pedestrian path between the towns of Manilva and Sabinillas. The initiative was approved with the unanimous backing of all political groups on the Provincial Council.
The provincial deputy highlighted that the pedestrian path is «an example of understanding between different administrations». She pointed out that six years ago Manilva Town Hall began working on the project, the Costa del Sol Association of Municipalities drew up the plans and the Provincial Council «put up the money for the works, which the Town Hall subsequently put out to tender». «There is no better example of understanding between different administrations, which, what is more, were not all of the same political colour», she stressed.
For his part, the Socialist spokesperson in Manilva, Diego Jiménez, asked the governing team and the mayor to «take it seriously and push forward this very important project to link Manilva with Sabinillas». «We have seen with concern how at the last council meeting the mayor said that he was practically leaving this project on the back burner, that it was not the priority», he said.
«We understand that completing this work is essential. It makes little sense to leave an infrastructure project that has cost a great deal of money practically in the middle of nowhere, rendering this walkway useless», he stated. He therefore asked the mayor to contact the Provincial Council to push forward the second phase of the pedestrian path.
Finally, the PSOE spokesperson on the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, Víctor Navas, said that he will ask the body to have the project for this second phase of the pedestrian path drawn up. «There is this wound, this scar, that we have to finish mending to connect Sabinillas with Manilva», he noted.
