The PSOE in Manilva has once again called, at the latest ordinary council meeting held last Thursday, for a reduction in the Property Tax (IBI) so that it can take effect in the 2026 tax year. The Socialist group considers the measure «urgent» and recalls that it has been requesting it for more than two years without receiving a favourable response from the various municipal governing teams.
The Socialist group points out that in November 2024, when Compromiso Manilva was in opposition, it submitted a motion to reduce the IBI rate from 0.57% to 0.50%, which was approved at a council meeting with the support of the PSOE and Vox, while the PP and IU voted against.
However, the PSOE stresses that this reduction was never applied and that, despite Compromiso publicly assuring that residents would see their bills reduced in 2025, no reduction in the tax was ultimately made.
At the council meeting held last week, the PSOE again urgently requested that the IBI reduction be carried out so that it can come into force in 2026, insisting on the need to ease the tax burden on families in the municipality in the face of the rising cost of living.
According to the Socialist group, both the previous local government (made up of the PP and IU) and the current one (Compromiso Manilva and IU) have replied that the measure «is not urgent», a stance that the Socialists consider unjustified.
The PSOE in Manilva states that it will continue to press for the IBI reduction, considering it a matter of responsibility towards the residents of the municipality, and arguing that the Town Hall has sufficient room to absorb this reduction if there is political will.
The spokesperson for the Socialist group, Diego José Jiménez, spoke during the council meeting to reiterate this request, as we were able to see courtesy of RTV Manilva:
