Around 80 residents gathered on Wednesday outside the Centro de Salud de Sabinillas to denounce the problems affecting the health service. Despite having modern, top-quality facilities, users blame staff shortages and poor organisation as the main causes of the long delays and difficulties in getting a medical appointment.
For months, residents of Sabinillas have been suffering the consequences of the lack of human resources at the health centre. The queues first thing in the morning right at the centre’s door have become an everyday sight, with elderly people and patients with health problems waiting from 6:30 to get one of the few numbers handed out each day after the centre opens at 8:00 in the morning.
«It is incomprehensible that we have to come so early to get a number and be able to get a medical appointment. This is not a decent service,» one of the affected residents told us.
The new Health councillor, Juan Carlos Morejón, was present at the protest and expressed his concern about the situation. «We are awaiting a response from the management of the centre to hold a meeting and analyse the problem in depth. We want to find solutions and improve this unsustainable situation that residents are experiencing,» Morejón told this newsroom.
Wednesday’s protest is further evidence of the exasperation of the residents of Sabinillas at the lack of solutions. Users are demanding an urgent response from the health authorities to guarantee quality care and avoid the long waits they suffer every day. Further protests of this kind are not ruled out, at a time that may be more suitable for other residents.
