The mayor of Manilva, José Manuel Fernández, and the Environment councillor, Noelia Muñoz, met representatives of the company FYM, compañía general de Canteras S.A., to resume the work under way in favour of public health and to reduce environmental impact.
Always acting in defence of the public interest, the municipal officials have already requested maintenance work on the roundabout near the quarry, as it is one of the main entrances to the municipality.
Another step in this agreement on improvements is the preparation of an air pollution assessment, with periodic external monitoring of fugitive emissions of settleable and suspended particles.
In addition, the following emission reduction techniques have been implemented:
- Misting irrigation system.
- Enclosures and covers.
- Paving of main access roads.
- Periodic watering.
- Continuous use of a street sweeper.
- Installation of irrigation gantries.
- Wheel wash.
- Dust reduction during drilling.
- Installation of a water tank.
- Water cannon.
- Dry fog system.
The Town Hall will continue to monitor all these measures and remain in permanent contact with FYM to reconcile the quarry’s activity with respect for the surroundings and for residents.
