Compromiso Manilva has officially presented Mario Jiménez as its candidate for the upcoming municipal elections in May, with the aim of retaining the mayoralty. The large-scale event was held at the cafetería Dani in Manilva, where more than xx residents, party members and supporters turned out to back Jiménez at his presentation.
Mario Jiménez’s candidacy was unanimously endorsed at the party’s assembly.
The event was opened by councillor Marcos Ruiz and councillor Daniel Muñoz, who then handed over to Laura Salazar, one of the new faces of the project.
Paqui López, currently a councillor in the governing team and a fundamental pillar of this political party, then introduced Mario Jiménez.
At the start of his speech, Jiménez sincerely thanked the members and supporters of Compromiso Manilva for «having thought of me again to head the candidacy for the upcoming municipal elections in May. I have the same desire and enthusiasm to continue as mayor, if the residents of Manilva give us their trust on 28 May».
The Compromiso Manilva candidate also had words of thanks for his team: «I am very proud of the people I have had alongside me these years. They have shown unwavering loyalty through their commitment to the residents. Thank you for your involvement, honesty, complicity and work over these years».
He also stressed in his remarks that «some will take advantage of these four months remaining before the elections to attack me over matters from the past, something I am at ease about. I remind them that, as mayor, they cannot level a single reproach at the honest and responsible management this governing team has carried out since I have been at the head of the Town Hall».
Mario Jiménez noted that there are four months from now until 28 May, «which is when the residents of Manilva will assess our management. I am at the head of the Compromiso Manilva 2023/2027 project. A project we began in 2016 and which is now approaching 7 years. In the coming days we will be presenting our electoral programme, which will take shape after contact with residents, organisations and associations, to listen to their proposals and demands. We will speak to everyone».
In his speech, Jiménez recalled that «in these years at the head of the Town Hall we have achieved institutional and legal stability, which has allowed Manilva to move forward as never before. We have become a municipality in which to invest and in which to live, as shown by the increase in inhabitants; more and more people are choosing our town as their place of residence».
«Employment, social policies and investment plans will be the backbone of the new Manilva of 2027 on which we are working. We are the only project that knows the reality of our municipality. We are going out to win and to achieve an absolute majority so that we can keep fulfilling our objectives».
Jiménez also gave a brief review of these four years of government, highlighting the refurbishment of all the children’s playgrounds; the new cleaning contract; the first phase of the seafront promenade project; and the infrastructure plan, with works on more than 30 streets in the municipality.
«An electoral programme that we have fulfilled 90%, and whose delivery has been marked by the Covid pandemic, which brought our Town Hall to a sudden halt. We had to deal with providing aid to protect families, vulnerable people and businesses. No one has been left behind by this Town Hall during the Covid period. The pandemic caused some of the investments to be put on hold; the priority was to be with our people and help them».
Finally, Jiménez pointed out that «this governing team has lowered taxes. We have reduced the cadastral values and the IBI (property tax) rate, for both urban and rural property».
