Night-time paper and cardboard collection in Sabinillas

-

The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental (the association of municipalities of the western Costa del Sol) and Urbaser have launched a night-time paper and cardboard collection service in busy commercial areas, to supplement the regular service. Sabinillas is one of these areas.

The new night-time service has been operating since 1 July and will run until 30 September, from Monday to Saturday. Shopkeepers and business owners must leave their paper and cardboard waste between 21:00 and 24:00 next to the blue container nearest to their premises, the Mancomunidad said in a statement.

The service covers Sabinillas, Casares Costa and Estepona in the western section; Puerto Banús, Ricardo Soriano and Jacinto Benavente in Marbella; and Mijas and Torremolinos in the eastern area. Marinas, which become busier during these months, are also included.

Villalón added that «the aim is to achieve the highest possible recycling rate and maintain the image of cleanliness and hygiene that our region requires, especially at this time of year when so many tourists visit us».

The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental’s councillor for Urban Solid Waste, Juan Luis Villalón, explained that the aim of the new service is to «recover and guarantee the recycling of this material, making things easier for shops and restaurants, which have a heavier workload during the summer period and therefore generate more of this waste on their premises».

During July, this new service collected 32,500 kilograms of paper and cardboard, while in the first half of August the volume stood at 19,740 kilograms.

Users are therefore advised to accumulate the boxes to be recycled, break them down and stack them next to the blue container during the times indicated.
