We are putting the finishing touches to the Manilva WebSite app, a free tool designed to answer at a glance the questions that come up every day: what time the next bus arrives at the nearest stop, which pharmacy is on duty right now, what is on this weekend, or how to report a problem in the street. We will have it up and running for you shortly.
There are questions that reach our newsroom almost daily: What time is the next bus at my stop? Which pharmacy is open tonight? What was the phone number of the health centre? Where do I report a broken streetlight? Each one means looking in a different place, or asking us to publish it anonymously, and often it is left without an answer for various reasons.
That is about to change. At Manilva WebSite we have spent months working on an app that brings all of this together in one place, designed from top to bottom for our neighbours in Manilva. We are in the final stretch and want to tell you what you will find.
The urban bus, sorted in two taps
The app will know the stops of the urban service and, most usefully, will know which one is closest to you. You tap «Nearest stop» and it tells you how many metres away it is and what time the next bus arrives, clearly and simply, calculated using the real time on your phone. No more deciphering the timetable sign: you will also be able to see all the day’s times and how to walk to the stop. Today, in the middle of the tourist season, the town hall website shows out-of-date information about the urban bus, with old timetables and missing stops that have been introduced for the summer, so the information reaching residents does not match reality at all, something that keeps happening because the website is not properly maintained.
The duty pharmacy, without calling anyone
The home screen will show which pharmacy is on duty today, at the time you open the app, with its address and a phone number you can call with one tap, plus the calendar for the coming weeks. A question that always comes up at the worst time, answered before you ask.
All the useful phone numbers
Town Hall, health centre, Local Police, Guardia Civil, emergency services, schools, taxis, water, breakdowns… all the municipality’s useful numbers in a single searchable list, calling directly when you tap them.
A full diary of what is happening in Manilva
Festivals, culture, sport and markets, organised by month and colour-coded. Each event will show the day, time and place, with a map link and a «Get directions» button, and it can be added to your phone’s calendar so you don’t forget it. The main festivals of the year will also be included, along with events that reach our newsroom, with the option of submitting from the app any event you are organising that may be of general interest.
Places of interest and up-to-date news
The app will include a guide to what to see in Manilva —the Castle, the Puerto de la Duquesa, the Civima, the vineyards— and a beaches section with photos and useful information. And of course, the latest news from manilva.ws, so you can always have the town’s news with you.
And something that did not exist until now: residents can publish too
This is perhaps the part we are most excited about. The app will not just be for looking things up, but also for taking part:
- Urban problems. A broken streetlight, a pothole, a damaged bin? You take a photo, mark the spot on the map and the report is published on a neighbourhood board. Anonymously, without giving your details.
- Lost and found items. A board for things that turn up and things that are lost, with a photo and location. Anyone who recognises their property will be able to write to whoever found it without either of them seeing the other’s contact details: the app acts as a go-between, keeping things private until you choose otherwise.
- Lost and found animals. The same tool for what causes families the most distress: a dog going missing or a cat turning up without an owner. With a photo, area and an immediate alert on the board.
Free, no registration and very fast
The app will be completely free, will not ask you to create an account and will be very fast. It will work on any mobile phone and can be installed on the home screen like any other app. It is designed, quite simply, to be useful.
We will have it up and running shortly. Keep an eye on manilva.ws: we will announce the exact day here and explain how to install it, step by step, in under a minute.
