Five years after the «historic» pavement works on the carretera de los Baños «yes, the same ones that began in 2020 for the much-promised undergrounding of the telephone cabling», the subject is back on the table, or rather, on a video call this time.
The mayor, Mario Jiménez, and the legal adviser, Aitor Menoyo, took part in a video conference with Telefónica to discuss «considerable improvements to the service». A phrase that sounds curiously familiar, almost as familiar as those cables that are still hanging in the air today, less than two metres from the ground, in some stretches of the carretera de los Baños and other parts of the municipality.
In case anyone has forgotten, those works, which lasted almost two years and cost 53,754.47 euros excluding VAT, on the pavement of the carretera de los Baños, had as one of their main aims burying the cabling and improving the telephone service. Half a decade later, the cables are still hanging and improvements are being announced, with the same ease with which the wind keeps moving the cables as it pleases, causing faults as a result of this neglect.
The Town Hall is now talking about a qualitative leap in the service. We will wait expectantly for it to arrive, 5 years later.
