The Partido Popular of Manilva has complained that 254 days have passed since the Town Hall announced the first resurfacing plan of 2026, without any of the announced works having begun.
At the end of January, the Town Hall reported the award of a resurfacing plan with a budget of 123,966.30 euros, VAT included, covering work at various points in Manilva, San Luis de Sabinillas and El Castillo de la Duquesa. According to municipal information, the works were scheduled to be carried out during the second half of February.
The project included 1,200 square metres on calle Cruces in Manilva; 2,400 m² on avenida de Manilva in Sabinillas, as well as work on calle María Zambrano, calle Benalmádena, calle Torrenete Ballester and calle Leopoldo Alas Clarín; and work on avenida Europa, calle Aguamarina and avenida del Brillante, in El Castillo de la Duquesa.
The Town Hall also announced at the time that work was already under way on a second resurfacing plan, to be carried out after the summer.
The PP questions the delay
In a post published this Sunday, the Partido Popular of Manilva focuses on the time that has passed since that announcement and states: “254 days without resurfacing”.
The party says the streets continue to have maintenance problems and that residents are still waiting for the announced work. The PP contrasts this situation with trips made by members of the governing team and questions the priorities of the municipal government.
In its statement, the party calls for “more work, more street presence and more management” and considers that the delay in the resurfacing work is a matter related to the maintenance of public roads, safety and the quality of life of residents.
The PP’s criticism therefore concerns work that the Town Hall itself announced with a specific timeframe: the second half of February. As of today, 4 October, 254 days have passed since the municipal announcement in January.
For the moment, the information published by the Town Hall that gave rise to the announcement maintains that the first plan was awarded and was scheduled to be carried out in February, and also mentions the preparation of a second plan after the summer.
The Partido Popular of Manilva also refers to trips made by members of the governing team and, in particular, points out that two cruises have reportedly been taken in the last five months.
The party uses this circumstance to question the priorities of the municipal government, contrasting those trips with the state of the town’s streets and the 254 days that have passed since the resurfacing plan was announced.
“Two cruises in 5 months, trips and holidays while Manilva waits”, the PP says in its post, in which it calls on the governing team to focus its efforts on the pending maintenance work on public roads.
The party sums up its criticism by calling for “fewer cruises, fewer photos and fewer excuses” and “more work, more street presence and more management”.
The governing team defends itself
According to statements by the Infrastructure councillor, the contracted company ultimately declined to carry out the work at the last minute, owing to the rise in the price of oil resulting from the war in Ukraine, which reportedly increased the cost of the materials needed for resurfacing.
This circumstance, the councillor explained, made it unviable to carry out the work with the budget initially awarded, so the Town Hall would have to restart the contracting procedure with a new financial proposal that allows the work to be carried out.
