Manilva Town Hall approved on Thursday the amendment of the water supply and sewerage service tariffs during the ordinary council meeting, which began at 11:00. The proposal passed with the votes in favour of Compromiso Manilva and Con Andalucía, while PSOE, VOX and Partido Popular voted against.
The approval by the council meeting is one more step, as the new tariffs must now receive the go-ahead from the Junta de Andalucía before they can be definitively applied.
The update of the tariff ordinances has generated an intense political debate over recent weeks, with cross-accusations between the different parties over the origin of the measure and who is responsible for it.
According to the estimates that have been circulating during the debate, the increase could mean that a bill currently amounting to around 100 euros would rise to around 140 euros.
The amendment of the water supply and sewerage tariffs was one of the most anticipated items on the agenda, after PSOE, PP and VOX publicly expressed their rejection of the measure in recent days.
The PSOE has argued that the increase is a consequence of the extension of the water contract approved in December 2024, pointing to the parties that supported or facilitated that approval, including VOX, which voted against today.
For his part, Antonio Marín has insisted that his abstention at that council meeting did not amount to supporting a tariff increase, and has recalled that he had already warned about the economic consequences of the municipal Adjustment Plan, which already pointed to a rise in all municipal charges, recalling the statements made by Juan Carlos Morejón in which he denied a general increase in taxes and charges.
The governing team continues to maintain that the Town Hall is not raising the price of water, that this increase is due to the rise in the CPI (consumer price index) added to the water price rise approved by the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol, and that this rise therefore has to be passed on to users.
