Manilva and Casares parents' associations will continue protests and fund the bus after PP complaint

The parents’ associations (AMPAS) of Manilva and Casares have announced that they will go ahead with the demonstration planned for 22 April in Málaga, despite the complaint filed by the Partido Popular with the Electoral Board against Manilva Town Hall, which had offered to cover the cost of the bus to Málaga.

The Town Hall has told families that it will appeal to the Electoral Board, arguing that the commitment was made to families before the electoral process began. It was originally intended for a trip to Seville, but after the elections were called and parliament was dissolved, the offer was kept in place for when it was needed.

In a joint statement, the parents’ associations have made it clear that the protest will not stop and that, if necessary, they themselves will cover the cost of transport to ensure and make it easier for families to attend.

“Neither the PP nor anyone else is going to stop us: the AMPAS will fund the bus for the 22 April demonstration”

Families take on the cost of transport

After learning of the complaint, the presidents of the AMPAS met immediately and have decided to directly fund the bus that will take attendees to Málaga, where they will once again demand the urgent construction of a new secondary school.

Departure is scheduled for 8:00, with return at approximately 14:30, and interested families can still reserve their place through the form available at this link: 👉 https://forms.gle/jXSysHpa9w7SDwUo9

The associations insist that this decision reflects their determination not to hold back a demand that they consider “fair and necessary”.

“If they don’t want us to go… now is when we are going to go more than ever”

An educational demand that is not new

The AMPAS stress that their campaign is not political, but stems from the daily concern of families about the situation at IES Las Viñas, a school they describe as completely overcrowded.

“As mothers and fathers, we are not going to allow any political party to try to block and sabotage a demand that is fair”, they state in the statement, stressing that their aim is to guarantee a decent education for their sons and daughters.

Right to demonstrate and authorised protest

The associations also point out that the right to demonstrate is protected by the Constitution itself (Article 21) and that the demonstration has the necessary permits.

In this regard, they have issued a clear message in response to the controversy:

“They are not going to censor us, which is what they are trying to do”

Call for participation

The AMPAS have called on the entire population of Manilva and Casares to join the demonstration, stressing that this is a cause that affects the whole municipality.

“Now more than ever we need the support of the whole town”, they say, encouraging families to take part in a protest they consider key to the future of education in the area.

“They are not going to stop us”

Far from discouraging them, the complaint has strengthened the associations’ determination, and they say they will go to Málaga “with more strength than ever”.

The AMPAS conclude their statement by reaffirming their commitment:

“They are not going to stop us. They are not going to divide us. We are going to Málaga”
