Manilva 100×100, a new political project led by Juan Carlos Morejón, is launched

-

The current first deputy mayor, Juan Carlos Morejón, heads this new party, which calls for a politics focused exclusively on Manilva and which could stand in the next municipal elections in 2027.

Manilva’s political scene now has another new set of initials. Manilva 100×100 has made its birth public after holding its first Assembly, taking the first step in a political project that, according to its own promoters, aims to put the interests of the municipality above the structures of provincial, regional or national parties.

No official press release has reached our newsroom so far, nor were we invited to this presentation, held at the Camping La Bella Vista, but we have considered this to be information of interest to our readers, especially with the municipal elections of May 2027 approaching and the new political landscape taking shape in the municipality.

The new party is headed by Juan Carlos Morejón, current first deputy mayor of Manilva Town Hall and head of the Urban Planning, Finance, Health and Consumer Affairs and Media departments.

During the presentation, Morejón defended the strictly local nature of the new party; “Manilva cannot be decided from Málaga, or from Seville, or from Madrid”, in what appears to be the central argument of this party.

The councillor considers that decisions affecting the municipality should be taken in the area itself, with first-hand knowledge of its residents’ needs. “Hence we are putting a new party on the table, one that is Manilva 100 per cent, that we want to run ourselves from the eight municipal districts, and logically we want to take decisions from Manilva because we are the ones who truly know the problems that people in Manilva suffer day to day, we are not starting from scratch”, said Morejón.

The new party has used precisely this idea as one of its main presentation messages. On its social media it states that “we are not starting from scratch. We are starting anew”, highlighting the political experience accumulated by a good number of the people behind the project.

In the statement published to mark its first Assembly, Manilva 100×100 says the project was born with the intention of doing politics based on “commitment, closeness and work”.

The party adds that behind the new initials there are people who have been involved in municipal political life for years and who know both how the Town Hall works and the reality of the municipality; “We know the way, we know Manilva and we know that governing and working for a town requires much more than words”, the new party says.

A project that emerges after the break with Izquierda Unida

The emergence of Manilva 100×100 comes after a turbulent term for the four councillors who stood in the 2023 municipal elections under the Izquierda Unida banner.

Juan Carlos Morejón, Agustín Vargas, Rogelio Pascual and Gema Zotano were expelled from Izquierda Unida after formalising the governing pact with the Partido Popular following the 2023 municipal elections. They subsequently continued under the Con Andalucía-IU banner.

Last August, the four officially became «non-attached councillors» at Manilva Town Hall, opening a new political phase that even then pointed towards the creation of an independent project for the 2027 municipal elections.

The new party therefore appears to be the next step in that process, although it has yet to be officially confirmed who will make up its list of candidates and what its final structure will be.

A new landscape ahead of 2027

The emergence of Manilva 100×100 adds another new element to the local political board ahead of the coming municipal elections, which look set to be very divided with the appearance of several new parties, as we have already been reporting.

The municipality will face the 2027 elections with a landscape that is likely to be more fragmented, with new political options trying to carve out a space among the traditional parties and local projects.

The message of Manilva 100×100 places precisely the emphasis on distinguishing itself from higher-level parties and asserting autonomy in decision-making.

The party states that “something new begins today” and speaks of building “a new way forward” drawing on the experience gained over recent years. “The first tile has been laid. Now the journey begins”.
