A 61-year-old man has died at Playa Paraíso, Manilva (Málaga). He was a bather who «was having difficulty getting out of the water» in the area in front of the Playa Paraíso housing development, according to a statement from Emergencias 112.
The incident took place at 15:20, when the 112 emergency service handled several calls about a man who had gone into the sea for a swim and was having difficulty getting out of the water because of the easterly storm (levante) that was battering the area this afternoon.
The coordination centre immediately informed the Guardia Civil, the Local Police, the Red Cross, Maritime Rescue and the 061 Health Emergency Centre (CES).
Meanwhile, the Local Police stated that other bathers had previously pulled the man to the shore and that he had swallowed a lot of water, so they were carrying out cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Despite the efforts of the health personnel, who mobilised the emergency team from Estepona, they could only confirm the death of the 61-year-old bather at the scene.
