Jiménez claims Fernández intends to put the water supply at risk in several housing developments

-

The Compromiso Manilva municipal spokesman, Mario Jiménez, has publicly denounced the intention of Manilva’s new mayor, Jometrosé Manuel Fernández, to leave two housing developments in the municipality, Bahía de las Rocas and La Paloma, without water.

The Compromiso Manilva municipal group has formally requested in writing the report on this project, «how water is going to be supplied to a development located in another municipality and another province, given the water shortage and the infrastructure deficit in our municipality, and more specifically in this area, where a very significant number of residents already spend the summer or live, to whom will be added those who occupy the homes currently being built», says Mario Jiménez.

This complaint stems from the meetings the current mayor of Manilva has been holding with the concession holder of the municipal water service and the parties involved, with the intention of supplying water to the Invespania area, which belongs to the municipality of San Roque and is located next to the Bahía de las Rocas development, in the municipal area of Manilva.

«We warn that, if this happens, the water supply to the Bahía de las Rocas and La Paloma developments would be in serious danger, especially in summer when the number of visitors multiplies», he states.

Jiménez has stated that «historically, the San Diego development was given a supply, but it is impossible with the current infrastructure to supply water to a mega project of around a thousand homes without a new pumping station, new pipework and a water tank in the new area of San Roque».

«During my time as mayor I never refused to offer them water, I was always open to finding a legal formula, but on the condition that the necessary infrastructure was built, something that either the Town Hall concerned, in this case that of San Roque, or the developer of the works must do», said Jiménez.

The Hidralia report of February 2020 states that, with the current tank, daily pumping figures in the summer period are already close to the maximum capacity of the existing infrastructure, so supply shortages could occur given the growth expected over the coming years in our municipality alone.

This report shows that urgent and appropriate action is needed to adapt the water facilities to future needs, in order to supply the Bahía de las Rocas, Invespania and San Diego developments, the last two being in the municipal area of San Roque.

The Compromiso Manilva municipal spokesman has expressed his surprise that «for the new mayor one of the priorities after barely 10 days in office is this housing development on the boundary with the municipality of San Roque. It does not make common sense, although everything suggests that it is other interests, favouring developers from other municipalities and the personal interests of a mayor close to Manilva, that prevail in this project».

«It is not normal that, instead of getting under way some of the projects we left in Bahía de las Rocas, such as the road linking one of the entrances to the development, an alternative project that is with the Urban Planning department and that we were going to carry out shortly, and which will allow residents of developments such as Las Garzas or Sunrise Heights to go directly to their homes without having to take a detour», stresses the Compromiso Manilva spokesman.

Jiménez has pointed out that «to this access project must be added the seniors’ park or the children’s play area announced by the former Urban Planning councillor, Marcos Ruiz, during the election campaign».

Compromiso Manilva also asks for the opinion of the governing partner, the non-affiliated councillor Agustín Vargas, «we ask him whether he is aware of this matter and what his opinion is, perhaps he was not at that meeting and the mayor does not want this matter to be widely known».

Finally, «as leader of the opposition we are going to keep a close eye on this matter and how it develops, what is clear to us is that we are going to continue acting as the opposition and safeguarding the interests of the residents of Manilva, and in this case those of the residents of our developments La Paloma and Bahía de las Rocas.
