In response to the risk situation detected at the San Luis school in Sabinillas, the mayor of Manilva, José Manuel Fernández, the Public Works councillor, Agustín Vargas, and the Education councillor have acted without delay to coordinate efforts with a technician appointed by the Regional Ministry of Education.
A report issued by the municipal Urban Planning team warned of structural damage found in both the internal and external elements of the infant school building, which should have been resolved some time ago.
Given the urgency of the situation, Manilva Town Hall has committed to addressing the deficiencies in the infrastructure immediately and as a priority, seeking comfortable, safe and decent solutions to ensure that pupils can start their school year without difficulties, as the structural problem detected, caused by the passage of time and wear from its proximity to the sea, made its use incompatible and dangerous.
Manilva Town Hall is devoting considerable resources to quickly addressing the problems identified at the facilities, so that students can return to an educational environment that is suitable and conducive to learning. Temporary alternatives are also being sought to ensure that the pupils’ education is not interrupted during these repair works.
The school management and the Regional Ministry of Education, together with the Education councillor and the municipal technicians, will be responsible for providing detailed information to the Parent-Teacher Associations (AMPAS) on the progress of the works and the steps to be followed in this process.
The safety and wellbeing of the students are of the utmost importance to all parties involved, and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure that the San Luis school in Sabinillas can offer a safe and conducive educational environment in the shortest possible time.
