Unemployment figures in the town have not been this low for 17 years, despite the exponential increase in Manilva’s population. The municipality has now recorded six consecutive months of decline, with 10 fewer people out of work. As for gender, there is a peculiarity that was not common in previous months: women were the ones who contributed to the fall in these figures this July, as 28 of those who left unemployment are women. In the opposite direction, unemployment rose among men, with 18 men joining the list of unemployed people in Manilva.
With this overall reduction, the total number of people out of work stands at 842, of whom 512 are women and 330 are men. These figures reflect a favourable trend in employment in the town which, although it is usually the general pattern in high season, are still very low figures compared with any on record.
At provincial level, Málaga cut its list of unemployed by 1,144, making it the third province in Spain with the biggest fall in unemployment, behind only Cádiz and Asturias. The month closed with a total of 108,865 unemployed and 758,948 in work.
At regional level, Andalucía lost more than 8,000 jobseekers in July and consolidated a decline that takes it further from the 600,000 unemployed mark, with the figure standing at 590,855, meaning the region leads the fall in unemployment nationwide. This is a drop of 1.33% compared with the previous month and 7.49% lower than a year ago. With July’s fall, there have now been six consecutive months of declines in unemployment in the region.
