El nuevo presidente comprometió “mi dedicación, mi esfuerzo y mi conocimiento” al servicio de la entidad

Félix Romero Moreno was elected today president of the Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental (Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol). Romero, a law graduate from Marbella and first deputy mayor of Marbella Town Hall, won the backing of the Mancomunidad’s Assembly and will lead the body until the next municipal elections.

In his speech, Romero thanked the institutional representatives present, including Patricia Navarro, Andalusian regional government delegate, and Francis Salado, president of the Provincial Council, and then set out the main lines of his term of office. Romero began by pledging «my dedication, my effort and my knowledge, forged over years of public service in this house, which I feel is my own».

For the new president, «the reason for this Mancomunidad’s existence is to join forces so as to be stronger, more efficient and more useful than we would be separately. We represent the economic engine of the province of Málaga and one of the most powerful tourism brands in Spain».

«I am fully aware that the Mancomunidad is an instrumental body, a tool at the service of the town halls. As such, it must guarantee quality standards, real savings and common solutions to challenges we share. Support for the town halls is the true essence and reason for being of this institution. Therefore, in the period that begins today, every action, decision and management measure taken by the governing team will be based on this: support for the eleven town halls that make up the western Málaga region.»

Félix Romero acknowledged that his will be «a short term, barely a year. And precisely for that reason, my commitment is clear: to complete what is under way and move forward on what is urgent. Thus, we will push forward the pending investments of the Hydraulic Infrastructure Plan, strengthening supply, sanitation and the digitalisation of the integrated water cycle; we will move towards a circular economy model, modernising the Environmental Complex and improving the efficiency of collection and recycling to meet the European standards that our citizens deserve; we will strengthen the Costa del Sol Occidental brand as a leading destination, working together to consolidate our position in international markets; we will improve municipal cooperation with a clear roadmap for each town hall, with verifiable commitments and ongoing monitoring; we will restore the Joint Investment Plans (PIM), as multi-year planning instruments that allowed the Mancomunidad to coordinate common investments in water, sanitation, waste, tourism infrastructure and facilities in each of the municipalities; and we will continue to make ACOSOL one of the best companies in water management. With its extraordinary professional team, the most important, the most vital resource will remain in the best hands. We will spare no effort in either water distribution or sanitation management to continue guaranteeing the service in the best conditions of quality, respect for the environment and sustainability.»

The new president concluded his address by appealing «to how much unites us and overcoming the little that separates us. Because that is what the times demand and what the residents of the Costa del Sol expect of us. I cannot promise a solution for every request, but I do guarantee attention, dialogue and a response to every concern.»
