The municipal spokesperson for Compromiso Manilva, Mario Jiménez, has once again condemned “the lack of transparency, the neglect, the obstruction of the opposition’s work, the failure to comply with the law and the lack of democratic spirit on the part of the mayor of Manilva”.
The mayor let the deadline for convening the council meeting pass, so the secretary has had to guarantee that it is held on 14 November, as this is a prerogative that the law grants to the opposition. It is the second time in this term of office that the mayor of Manilva has refused to convene an extraordinary council meeting requested by the opposition.
“This failure to comply was reflected once again in the convening of next Thursday’s extraordinary council meeting. It is a total neglect of the mayor’s duties. A council meeting requested by Compromiso Manilva, representing more than a quarter of the municipal corporation, and which has had to be convened by the secretary of the Town Hall following the mayor’s failure to comply”, says Jiménez.
Jiménez described the behaviour and attitude of the mayor of Manilva during this term of office as “arrogant”.
The spokesperson for Compromiso Manilva stressed that “it is the first time that an extraordinary council meeting has been held without convening the pre-meeting committees, where the reports of the national civil servants with official authorisation are presented, but in this case the instructions are that if our motions are approved, then those officials will report. Once again, the mayor is showing disregard for the rights of the opposition by depriving us of that pre-meeting committee”.
