Employment picks up in Manilva with the arrival of the tourist season

The number of unemployed people in Manilva continues its downward trend. April 2026 closed with 905 people out of work, a fall of 37 compared with March (942), marking four consecutive months of falling unemployment in the municipality.

This latest figure confirms the positive performance of the local labour market at the start of the year and coincides, as usual, with the start of the tourist season, one of the main economic drivers of the area.

The fall in unemployment in April was spread fairly evenly between men and women. Female unemployment fell by 18, to 549 women out of work, while male unemployment fell by 19, to 356 men. These figures reinforce the downward trend and also improve the year-on-year comparison, standing below the 922 unemployed registered in April last year.

At provincial level, Málaga registers 104,415 unemployed people at the end of April, a drop of 3.82% compared with March, with 4,152 fewer people out of work. Compared with 2025, the number of unemployed fell by 11,106, a year-on-year reduction of 9.61%.

At regional level, Andalucía has closed a historic April, leading the national fall in unemployment, with 22,393 fewer people out of work and surpassing the threshold of 3.6 million Social Security contributors. Seasonal contracts have given a significant boost to the region’s labour market, with 3.86% fewer jobseekers registered with the public employment services. The fact that Holy Week and the first fairs fell in the same month has helped produce these results.

In Spain, a new all-time high for employment has been reached, despite the context of great international uncertainty. In April the labour market exceeded 22 million people working, on average, registered with Social Security for the first time, after adding 223,700 jobs. The month brought another piece of major news: registered unemployment fell below the 2.4 million mark for the first time in 18 years, since 2008, after dropping by 62,700 people last month, driven by Holy Week, a key date for tourism and hospitality.
