Once again, the Fiesta de la Vendimia (the Grape Harvest Festival) has been accompanied by its traditional grape bunch competition following the procession of the Virgen de los Dolores, an event that marks the arrival of the grape harvest in the town. Among bunches of great size and quality, the one belonging to Diego Centeno took first prize thanks to a specimen weighing no less than 1.915 kilograms, which earned him a prize of €500.
This competition, which rewards the four heaviest bunches among all those offered to the Virgin, remains an unmissable date for farmers in the area.
They were followed on the podium by Nieves Rojas, Alejandro Castillo and Francisco Castillo, who were also recognised for the quality and great size of their bunches.
This competition, held every year, is not only a showcase of the effort and dedication of the farmers, but also a way of paying tribute to Manilva’s wine-growing tradition. The winning bunches are assessed by an expert jury, which takes into account that it must be a single bunch.
With this competition, Manilva celebrates the arrival of a new grape harvest and pays tribute to the Virgen de los Dolores, patron saint of farmers.
