Compromiso denounces paralysis in management

-

Compromiso Manilva’s municipal spokesperson, Mario Jiménez, said this morning that he denounced «the constant obstacles of various kinds that the mayor places in the way of the opposition so that we can exercise our role democratically in the Town Hall».

One example is the calling of the extraordinary council meeting that Compromiso Manilva and the PSOE requested a month ago, «prompted by the paralysis of the mayor’s self-promoting government and his team of misgovernment. In fact, it was the Town Hall’s Secretary General, following the deadlines set by law, who had to call the council meeting and not the mayor. We show once again that we are forcing them to work and to run the Town Hall».

Jiménez pointed out that «the surprise is that before this extraordinary council meeting, on Tuesday 2 April, he calls another extraordinary one with a series of items that reflect the proposals we took to the extraordinary council meeting, showing once again that he does not work and that it is the opposition that sets his agenda and management at the Town Hall».

«On top of this, on Thursday he has called an ordinary council meeting at which he will present the Town Hall’s General Budget, showing once again his lack of transparency and respect for the opposition. He calls three council meetings in a row on a whim and to divert attention, so that residents of the municipality do not clearly understand which items are put forward by the opposition and which by the municipal government», said Mario Jiménez.

«He obstructs the work of the opposition and slows down decision-making on important matters in the municipality that affect residents’ daily lives. Mr Fernández does nothing but put obstacles in the way of the opposition and it seems our very existence bothers him. It is sad and regrettable that we have to remind the mayor of the rights that the law grants to opposition councillors so that they can do their work», said the Compromiso spokesperson.

It should be remembered that the council meeting requested by Compromiso Manilva and the PSOE raises issues such as: the awarding of two taxi licences and the request for three new licences and their awarding; and the creation of a monitoring committee and the equitable distribution among all municipal groups of space in the municipal media.

The plusvalía tax also appears on the agenda of this extraordinary council meeting, where a change is requested to the tax ordinance regulating the tax on the increase in value of urban land.

The mayor’s dedication is another of the issues requested; to this end, they will request a review of the current arrangement governing the mayor of Manilva’s dedication, in accordance with the Municipal Organic Regulations.
