CCOO denies any link to or support for the proposal to close the fire station

-

The Trade Union Section of the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium (CPB) and the CCOO Federation of Citizen Services in Málaga have issued a statement to clarify reports published in various media outlets since yesterday.

The union has denied that CCOO supports the proposed closure “The vice-president of the Provincial Council and president of the Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium (CPB), Manuel Marmolejo, has stated that the provisional closure and relocation has the support of the committee, the risk prevention company, the CCOO union and the staff who work at the facilities, backed by technical, logistical and operational reports.”

The CPB Trade Union Section in Málaga has stated that “this claim does not match reality. CCOO delegates have called for deficiencies at the station to be fixed because they could pose a risk to staff and a problem for the service, but the closure of the station has never been requested”

The CCOO Trade Union Section of the CPB in Málaga submitted a dossier in December 2024 calling for the cleaning and decontamination of areas and personal protective equipment (PPE), the installation of smoke detectors, changes to the layout of rest areas and an improvement in aerial signal quality, among other things.

All of these demands were made with the sole aim of improving working conditions; the document submitted is not a technical report and its contents neither request nor suggest the closure of the Manilva fire station. “We welcome the fact that the Provincial Council has become aware of the shortcomings and wants to improve safety at the station but, if every complaint made by CCOO to improve safety at a workplace led to its closure, there would be no productive activity in Málaga”, said Inmaculada González, General Secretary of FSC-CCOO.

CCOO also insists on the need to keep the station open, as the temporary closure leaves the residents of Manilva unprotected.

CCOO has asked the Provincial Council to correct the information immediately and hopes that the measure will be reconsidered. The union insists that it is not necessary to close the service in order to carry out the changes that have been requested.
