Antonia Muñoz to appeal her sentence

-

As we reported last Tuesday, Section Nine of the Provincial Court of Málaga has handed down its ruling, after more than 11 years of investigation, on one of the three parts into which the «Caso Manilva» was divided. It found the former mayor criminally responsible as the perpetrator of a continuing offence of administrative prevarication, sentencing her to special disqualification from all public office or employment for a period of nine years and ordering her to pay a quarter of the trial costs.

According to the newspaper Málaga Hoy, the former mayor of Manilva, Antonia Muñoz (IU), intends to appeal this ruling by the Provincial Court of Málaga, which convicts her of a continuing offence of prevarication for awarding 749 contracts without following the legal procedure, as she confirmed this Wednesday in statements to the Efe news agency. The former mayor of Manilva, who has not yet received official notification of the ruling and who says she learned of it through the media, has made her final decision dependent on the advice of her lawyer, who is the one who knows «the legal tools».

Muñoz, who was mayor of Manilva between 2007 and 2013, insists that she would like the opportunity to defend herself and clear her name, above all for the sake of her family, especially her grandchildren, since «the internet publications and press cuttings are there». The ruling in question, which sentences the former Izquierda Unida mayor to nine years of special disqualification from all public employment or office, considers her responsibility proven in the formalisation of the employment contracts in question without the appropriate legal procedures having been followed.
