This morning, the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, the councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Diego José Jiménez, and the Culture councillor, Alba Jiménez, held an important meeting with technicians from the Diputación Provincial de Málaga and from the Town Hall, to assess and finalise the start of the project to enhance the archaeological site around the Castillo de la Duquesa.
The work includes fencing off the site, consolidating the structures, a museum plan, a perimeter walkway from which to view the structures, lighting and an explanatory museum plan.
The area of the site where work will take place forms part of the double BIC (Asset of Cultural Interest) that includes the Castillo de la Duquesa fortress itself and the Roman site, dating from the 2nd to the 5th century AD.
It is a strategic project for the economic and tourism development of the Castillo area, which needs this boost to consolidate its current offering.
