Antonio Marín reports that the Town Hall closed 2025 with a deficit of 3.08 million, minimal investment spending and an 87% fall in treasury surplus since 2023.
The spokesman for the VOX Municipal Group at Manilva Town Hall, Antonio Marín, has expressed concern about the council’s financial situation after analysing the accounts for the 2025 financial year, the figures of which reflect, he warned, «an evident lack of forward planning and a deficit that jeopardises the local economy».
Marín said that «managing with refinanced debt is already difficult, but leaving the treasury at rock bottom makes the situation worse and limits the Town Hall’s ability to respond to residents’ needs».
The VOX spokesman has asked the governing team for explanations as to why it collected a total of 16.29 million euros less than forecast during 2025. «The first question the municipal government must answer is what caused such a deviation in revenue and why no corrective measures were taken during the year», he said.
VOX has also questioned the low level of execution of municipal investments. Of the 12.668 million euros budgeted for new investments, only 2.8 million were spent.
«Investments are what allow the municipality to move forward, improve public services and develop the infrastructure residents need. It is not acceptable to budget for more than 12 million and end up spending barely 2.8 million», Marín said.
The 2025 financial year also closed with a deficit of 3.08 million euros and a breach of the spending rule. According to the figures set out by the municipal spokesman, against a legal deficit limit of 3.2%, Manilva Town Hall reached 11.58%, a deviation of 8.38 percentage points.
Municipal treasury loses 7.66 million in two years
The VOX Municipal Group in Manilva has focused particularly on the trend in the treasury surplus. At the end of 2023, the Town Hall had 8.778 million euros; in 2024, the figure fell to 4.394 million, and in 2025 it dropped again to 1.114 million euros.
«In just two years, the municipal piggy bank has shrunk by 7.663 million euros, a fall of close to 87%. This is a very serious deterioration that demands explanations and an immediate plan to reverse it», Marín warned.
The VOX spokesman also referred to the balance of account 413, which records obligations pending allocation to the budget. At the end of 2025, this account held 1.635 million euros.
Marín has called on the municipal government to explain how it will reduce these obligations and prevent further spending without budget allocation. «Extrajudicial recognitions of credit should be an exceptional mechanism for regularising certain invoices, not a habitual practice that ends up concealing poor budget planning», he stated.
