The VOX spokesperson in Manilva, Antonio Marín, speaking after the extraordinary council meeting held a few days ago, at which the extension of the contract for the management of the Municipal Drinking Water Supply and Sewerage Service was debated, has called for more planned and transparent management by the governing team. Marín pointed out that «the repeated use of the urgency mechanism to resolve highly important matters shows a lack of foresight and planning».
“We cannot allow issues as important to residents as the water supply to be decided in a rushed manner, with council meetings and committees called in less than 24 hours. This not only makes responsible decision-making difficult, but also creates uncertainty and distrust”, Marín stated.
VOX has proposed establishing a more solid work schedule that would make it possible to anticipate situations such as the one discussed today. As Marín stressed, «it is essential that the governing team promotes mechanisms that guarantee a detailed and transparent analysis of all the contracts and services that are fundamental to the municipality». He also stated, “matters of this magnitude need to be planned years in advance, not resolved urgently when there is no longer time to explore alternatives”.
The spokesperson also suggested that information committees be convened more frequently and with sufficient notice so that all political groups can contribute solutions and study the proposals in depth. “Our responsibility to residents demands that we work with rigour and seriousness. We cannot approve or reject measures without having all the necessary information and without a calm debate”, he said.
Regarding this latest council meeting, Marín explained VOX’s abstention, arguing that the lack of data and the contradictions in the governing team’s positions made it impossible to take a decision on solid grounds. “We were faced with scant reports, contradictions in the positions of the government itself and, above all, a sense of improvisation that we cannot tolerate. That is why we decided not to block the matter, but not to support it either”, he added.
Finally, Antonio Marín appealed to the governing team’s sense of responsibility to prevent similar situations from happening again. “VOX proposes that a working methodology be adopted that prioritises planning and transparency. This will not only allow better-judged decisions to be made, but will also strengthen residents’ trust in their local government”, he concluded.
