Antonio Marín condemns the Town Hall’s failure to honour the commitment made in 2024 to dissolve GEUMA in 2025
The VOX Municipal Group in Manilva has formally requested the dissolution of the Urban Planning Management Office of Manilva Town Hall (GEUMA), in line with the Andalusian Chamber of Accounts’ 2015 audit report, which had already warned of the need to wind up this public body.
The VOX spokesman in the municipality, Antonio Marín, has recalled that GEUMA should have been dissolved years ago and that maintaining its structure means «continuing to allocate all residents’ resources to a body that is not essential to municipal urban planning management».
Town Hall’s unfulfilled commitment
VOX has explained that, at the GEUMA Board of Directors meeting on 21 March 2024, its group voted in favour of that year’s budget, making its support conditional on the express commitment of the then mayor, José Manuel Fernández Fernández, to dissolve the body before the 2025 accounts were approved.
This commitment, Antonio Marín recalls, is recorded in writing in the official minutes of the meeting. «In 2024 we voted in favour of the budget on the condition that the Management Office would be dissolved in 2025. That agreement has not been honoured,» he stressed.
Budget for 2026: €100,250
The VOX Municipal Group condemns that, despite the rulings of the Chamber of Accounts, the Town Hall is once again allocating funds to this urban planning body. The budget presented amounts to 100,250 euros.
VOX considers it unjustifiable to continue transferring public money to GEUMA when its functions could be carried out by the council itself. «What is done today by GEUMA could perfectly well be done by a collegiate body, without the need for a public company, to which the Town Hall also has to transfer financial resources,» said Marín.
To conclude, the spokesman for the VOX Municipal Group in Manilva called for «an agile, transparent municipal administration, free of structures that only generate more spending and a greater financial burden for our residents.»
