Manilva Town Hall has announced that inspections are being carried out on the works under way in the Bahía de las Rocas area, to ensure that the work complies with current legislation. The municipal statement was issued a day before the group Verdemar Ecologistas en Acción made public a new complaint about the planning situation relating to the same development.
According to the Town Hall, the Urban Planning department is monitoring the various projects to check that they comply with the licences granted and with planning and environmental regulations. These inspections are focused in particular on this area of Manilva, where various earthworks are being carried out.
The inspections have involved the Urban Planning councillor, Juan Carlos Morejón, the department manager, Susana Jurado, as well as the inspector and municipal technicians, who, according to the Town Hall, carry out a thorough check on each project, including compliance with environmental regulations.
Just 24 hours later, Verdemar Ecologistas en Acción again reported what it considers to be “a lack of planning control” in the same area. The group says it has detected earthworks and dumping of inert materials with a possible impact on green areas and public watercourses.
The environmental organisation maintains that in 2025 it requested information from the Town Hall about the legality of these works without having received a full response. For this reason, it has decided to use the mechanisms provided by transparency legislation and to take the case to the Junta de Andalucía to demand access to the documentation.
Verdemar also warns of possible damage to valuable ecosystems, such as areas of Mediterranean woodland, especially wild olive trees, and natural watercourses, which could entail legal liability in both planning and environmental terms.
The group is demanding that the Town Hall provide immediate transparency, full access to the files, the halting of any works that may be irregular and the environmental restoration of the affected areas. It also does not rule out taking further legal action if the situation is not clarified.
