The wedding of the year will take place this Saturday at the Church of Santa Ana

-

It is not usual to see the Del Pinos pose at celebrations that are not linked to their businesses or philanthropic initiatives. With an almost pathological discretion about appearing in social life, the family will once again be seen together in public this Saturday at a joyful family event: the wedding of Rafael del Pino (junior), eldest son of the chairman of Ferrovial (from his first marriage to Cristina Fernández-Fontecha), who will marry Victoria López de la Serna on the Costa del Sol. The news was first reported by the magazine ‘Hola’. The ceremony will be held at the parish church of Santa Ana, in Manilva, a municipality in Málaga province with 17,000 inhabitants. There, in an 18th-century church much loved by local residents, the couple will say «I do» before moving on to the luxury resort Finca Cortesin, in Casares, where the banquet and the party afterwards will take place. The venue, a retreat of 43,000 square metres of gardens, private suites and high-end villas, has been chosen for its ability to guarantee maximum discretion and shield the guests from prying eyes.

The groom shares much more than a name and surname with his father. Educated at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas and holding an MBA from the prestigious Stanford Graduate School of Business, he began his career at Goldman Sachs and currently works as chief executive of Rijn Capital, the family’s investment vehicle. The bride, for her part, comes from a key dynasty in the art world: she is the daughter of the gallery owners Javier López Granados and Gaella de la Serna, leading figures on the Madrid cultural scene, and works at the investment firm Brookfield after studying at Georgetown, Columbia and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It has been reported that the ceremony will bring together members of some of the most influential dynasties in Spanish business, such as the Marches, the Masaveus or the Botíns. Regular figures from the couple’s circle are also expected, such as Christian de Hannover and Sassa de Osma, Alberto Cortina and Elena Cué, or José Manuel Entrecanales and María Carrión. On the groom’s side, his brothers Ignacio and Juan are expected to attend, as well as his aunt María del Pino, while the bride will have the support of her three siblings and her cousin, the gallery owner Valeria Aresti.

What remains unknown is whether all the members of the Del Pino clan will attend. The chairman of Ferrovial does not have a very close relationship with his five siblings (María, Leopoldo, Fernando, Joaquín and Vicente), and the relationship between them has been described more than once as distant. The wedding could therefore also become an unexpected gauge of family unity.

Despite the controversy caused by Rafael del Pino in 2023 when he decided to move the construction company’s registered office out of Spain, the Del Pinos remain one of the most powerful families in Spain. With an estimated fortune of 7,100 million euros, the chairman of Ferrovial holds the third-largest fortune in the country, behind only Amancio Ortega and Juan Roig. His presence in the Forbes ranking is not limited to Rafael. His sister, María del Pino Calvo-Sotelo, is the second-richest person in Madrid, thanks to her stake in Ferrovial, where she holds around 8% of the shares. The celebration in Marbella will be a rare opportunity to see the Del Pinos united at an event that goes beyond business.
