The Spanish Government begins maintenance and improvement work this week on the beaches along the coast of the province of Málaga, with a total investment of 2.1 million euros from Next Generation funds under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge announced today that it will allocate 1.3 million euros to the western coastline, covering the municipalities of Manilva, Casares, Estepona, Marbella, Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Torremolinos, while a second contract will see an investment of 800,000 euros for the eastern coastline, covering the municipalities of Málaga, Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga, Algarrobo, Torrox and Nerja.
The Government Sub-delegate in Málaga, Javier Salas, stressed that this investment represents «a record budgetary effort by the Spanish Government in the province of Málaga through the two largest coastal maintenance contracts in its history, and they will ensure that the beaches of all the province’s coastal municipalities are in optimal condition for public and tourist use».
All the work «has been agreed with the town halls of the coastal municipalities, will be carried out gradually from this week until next April and is subject to possible changes depending on the dynamics of the coastline as the natural environment that it is, and on the needs that may be identified by the Coastal Demarcation».
The work includes the compensation, supply and transfer of sand to restore eroded stretches of coastline.arena
