The "Puerta del Mar" multipurpose centre is unveiled

New project under way. Manilva Town Hall will allocate 700,000 euros to the first phase of a project that will provide spaces for the Municipal Food Bank, the Youth Centre, rooms for sports use and rooms for associations in the town and its villages.

The mayor, Mario Jiménez, explained that work will start before the summer and that the first phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year. These public spaces will be created in the Edificio Puerta del Mar, in Sabinillas, on a total of 2,500 square metres owned by the Town Hall.

The mayor presented the project at a press conference on Monday, together with the councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Diego José Jiménez, the Sports councillor, Manolo Gil, and the social affairs councillor, Paqui López, as it is «a cross-cutting project involving many departments». Jiménez said he was «very proud» to launch this project.

The councillor for Infrastructure and Works said that the Town Hall already has the complete project for the work, but that it will be carried out, as the mayor indicated, in two phases. In the second, among other facilities, 14 rooms for associations will be provided, «so that they have somewhere to meet».

This councillor, like the mayor, highlighted the work carried out by all of them and recalled that the Municipal Food Bank currently has inadequate premises. There will also be a lift to make it easier to bring in food and to provide access for people with reduced mobility. «We are also responding to the lack of space for sports use in Sabinillas», this councillor added.

Communal areas will be provided, such as changing rooms and a meeting room, among others. The mayor said he expects the second phase to be less costly than the first, as the latter will include work such as air conditioning and the electrical installation for the whole space.
