In Marbella you can hire a jet ski with or without a licence, on a closed circuit or on a guided trip along the coast. This guide compares Marbella operators with their 2026 prices, the models you will find, the departure areas and what each option includes.
What to bear in mind before hiring a jet ski in Marbella
Before booking, it is worth clarifying four points.
With or without a licence: what you can do
You can ride without a licence. The option is the supervised closed circuit, a marked-off area in front of the beach with an instructor who watches over you from the water or from another jet ski. You do not need a qualification, only to be of legal age.
What changes depending on the format:
- Without a licence, closed circuit. The jet ski has limited power and you do not leave the marked area.
- Without a licence with an instructor, guided trip. You set off in a group behind an instructor and travel along the coast.
- With a boating licence, self-drive. You are given the unrestricted jet ski and go off on your own.
The restricted circuit jet skis reach lower speeds. To go faster you need the option with a licence.
Minimum age, weight and whether you need to be able to swim
The minimum age to ride is 16 or 18 depending on the operator. To go as a passenger, between 12 and 14, almost always with a supplement of around 10 euros. The life jacket is compulsory and is included.
What the price includes and what to bring on the day
Check that the price includes fuel, life jacket, third-party liability insurance, briefing and instructor. Some places charge for petrol separately. Most hold a deposit of between 50 and 500 euros on your card and release it at the end if there is no damage. Bring sunglasses with a strap, water shoes, water-resistant sun cream and a change of clothes. Do not take off the safety key attached to your life jacket, the kill cord, because it stops the engine if you fall off.
Best time of year, sea conditions and opening times on the Costa del Sol
The season runs from May to October. In choppy seas the jet ski bumps hard, while in a flat sea it is easier to handle. In Marbella the water is usually calmer first thing in the morning, so book early if you can choose. Operators open at around 10:00 and close at dusk.
