-

The beaches of Sabinillas and Las Gaviotas are now officially flying the Blue Flags awarded by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), Spain’s representative of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), an international distinction that recognises excellence in coastal management and conservation.

The flag-raising ceremony was attended by the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, the councillor in charge of the Beaches department, Gema Zotano, and members of the governing team, who wished to highlight the work carried out throughout the year to keep the municipality’s coastline in the best possible condition.

During the ceremony, municipal officials highlighted the daily work of the staff of the Beaches department and of the various services involved in the maintenance, cleaning, safety and conservation of the coast, all of which are essential for both beaches to continue meeting the demanding criteria required by this international recognition.

The Blue Flags distinguish beaches that stand out for the quality of their waters, environmental management, safety, the services available and the information provided to users. It is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of sustainable tourism and environmental protection, and is an important draw for both residents and visitors.
