The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the culture councillor, Alba Jiménez, have announced that guided visits to the magnificent facilities of the archaeological site next to the Castle monument will begin next week.
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, through the education councillor, Daniel Muñoz, guided visits have been arranged for pupils from the schools and the secondary school so that they can learn about our history in detail and gain knowledge of how our ancestors lived.
The site will open to the general public at the beginning of May, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Those interested will also be able to take this highly educational and attractive tour with guided visits, at times that will be announced in the coming days. Contact details and information on how to submit requests to enjoy the complex will also be provided.
It should be remembered that at this archaeological site, known as the «Entorno del Castillo de la Duquesa», remains were already documented in the 18th century, with the discovery of a Roman tomb, but archaeological work began in 1987 as a result of building works. Over the years, various interventions have made it possible to establish the definitive boundaries of the site, as well as to identify and map the spaces that make up this Roman maritime villa, determining the location of the pars urbana, with its baths, the necropolis associated with it and the salting production area.
