As well as the 3 fairs in each urban area, this year, 2022, the Town Hall committed to bringing back the August Fair, which has been a great success in terms of organisation, attendance and performances. These have cost more than €200,000 + VAT + SGAE levy for the various concerts, which have been paid for from public funds in just 6 days.
The «free» concerts that we have all been able to enjoy, Paco Candela, Rasel, Nyno Vargas, the opening speech by Yuyu and Javier Aguilera, Antonio Molina… have had an approximate cost of around €11 per resident, which has gone towards bringing back this August Fair.
For the moment, there is no study of the impact on tourism and promotion, or of the impact it has had on local businesses.
We remind readers that in 2017, with Mario Jiménez as mayor and Agustín Vargas as Fiestas councillor and driving force behind the return of the fairs to the three urban areas, he set out his arguments: that the municipality’s business owners would benefit directly from our festivities, that our traditions would be revived and that organisation costs would be cut.
On 5 February 2017 a public vote was held, with a low turnout of 9%, or 1,236 people according to municipal sources, of whom 847 voted in favour of changing how these festivities are held, while 387 supported what had been the existing set-up of the municipality’s fair in a single location, the fairground.
