This year the municipality’s Christmas lighting has been met with many complaints from residents, and has even prompted debate at a council meeting since it was switched on, as the switch-on came a little later than in previous years. The opposition parties, Izquierda Unida and Partido Popular, have strongly criticised not only the delay: both groups have also highlighted the lack of lighting and decoration in many areas.
This newsroom has had access to the technical specifications document for the contracting of this service, which budgeted a total of 72,450 + VAT, divided into 17,949.58€ for the lighting of Manilva, 27,756.3€ for the Sabinillas area, 10,462.19€ for El Castillo de La Duquesa and 4,714.29€ for the Christmas lighting at Puerto de La Duquesa.
With the technical specifications in hand and a look at the street, some siting errors can be seen in certain figures, such as the «3D gift with music» in Plaza de La Vendimia in Manilva, which according to the document was planned to be installed in Plaza del Cali in Sabinillas, or the lack of lighting on Avenida de España, Avenida de La Paz and Calle Bolivia, among others.

MANILVA LIGHTING
- Supply, installation and removal of 1 sign with supports reading FELIZ NAVIDAD, made of light strings or LED micro-lamps with a maximum power of 600 W, with an aluminium structure…
- Supply, installation and removal of 2 arches with supports made of LED micro-lamps with a maximum power of 600 W, with an aluminium structure, along Calle Cruces (approximately 6 metres of carriageway)…
- Supply, installation and removal of 5 arches with supports made of LED micro-lamps with a maximum power of 600 W, with an aluminium structure, along Calle Alvarez Leiva (approximately 9 metres of carriageway)…
- Supply, installation and removal of 22 Christmas motifs (gifts, stars, sweets, little bells, etc.) to decorate the street lighting columns, located as follows: 6 units on Calle Iglesia, 6 units on Calle Cuartel, 2 units on Calle Jimena (minimum dimensions 120×80 cm) and 8 units on Pozo del Rey (minimum dimensions 50×50 cm), made of light strings or LED micro-lamps…

It will be powered by an independent line from the nearest public lighting panel, with thermal-magnetic protection and a separate panel.

For the moment we do not know which companies bid for this contract or what their offers were, but what is currently installed in the municipality is, to date, very different from what was planned in the technical specifications document for the contracting of this service.
