The Socialist party denounces the worn paintwork and the condition of some pedestrian crossings in the municipality and calls for an urgent review to improve pedestrian safety.
The PSOE in Manilva has called on the Town Hall to act urgently to inspect, repair and repaint the pedestrian crossings in the worst state of deterioration in various parts of the municipality.
The Socialists have accompanied their complaint with several images in which, they say, pedestrian crossings can be seen with badly worn paint, markings that have practically disappeared and areas of the road surface that are also in poor condition.
The party believes that a pedestrian crossing whose road markings are barely visible may partly lose its function of warning drivers and create a greater risk for people crossing the road. In this regard, they place particular emphasis on groups such as the elderly, children and those with reduced mobility.
They ask for speed bumps to be combined with proper maintenance
The PSOE welcomes the installation of speed bumps and other measures designed to reduce vehicle speeds in different parts of the municipality, but believes that these actions should be accompanied by adequate maintenance of road signage.
«Installing speed bumps is fine. Keeping pedestrian crossings visible and safe is also essential», say the Socialists.
The complaint proposes that the Town Hall carry out a general review of the existing pedestrian crossings in Manilva, determine which are in the worst condition and set priorities for carrying out both the repainting and the necessary repairs to the paving.
«Let’s not wait for an accident to happen»
The Socialists believe that maintaining these features should be part of the routine measures to guarantee road safety, and they demand that it should not be necessary to wait for an accident to occur before taking action.
«The safety of pedestrians must come before any other consideration», say the PSOE in Manilva.
The party sums up its request with a message addressed to the governing team: «Fewer patch-ups and more maintenance. Safety is shown by taking action».
