The Fiesta de la Vendimia in Manilva is about to crown an intense programme of festivities and activities that has kept residents and visitors busy in our town since the start of the summer.
As is tradition, the celebrations will begin on the first weekend of September, thanks to the collaboration of the Culture, Fairs and Festivals, and Agriculture departments, together with the participation of the Cofradía de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores y Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno de Manilva.
The celebration will begin on Saturday 2 September at 19:00 with a solemn Holy Mass in honour of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, accompanied by the Coro de la Escuela Municipal de Música at the Iglesia de Santa Ana in Manilva. Afterwards, the Virgin will be carried in procession accompanied by the Banda Municipal de Música, and the traditional grape offering will take place. As is tradition, the competition for the heaviest bunch of grapes will also be held.
The fun will continue that same day from 22:00 in the Plaza de la Vendimia, where calle Mar will fill with music and dancing with performances by the groups «Latidos» and «Rompeolas». Later, DJ Turbo will take over the party to keep the night going with the best current hits.
El Domingo Rociero will begin with a tasting of wine and grapes from our area, while visitors and attendees will receive typical gifts from our town.
The Daytime Fair will be opened at 13:00 on calle Mar, followed by a parade of horse riders in the same location at 13:30, with the collaboration of the Peña Caballista de Manilva.
From 14:00, the street will be full of music and dancing with performances by the groups «Latidos» and «Compás Flamenco», and at 19:00 the traditional grape treading and the tasting of the first wine will take place in the Plaza de la Vendimia.
The festivities will close with a special performance by the group «Rockopop», a tribute to the hits of the 80s and 90s, starting at 21:00 in the same location.
In addition, the resident DJs, Alejandro Ocaña and Turbo, will keep up the rhythm and energy in the Plaza de la Vendimia from 16:00, following the festive spirit promoted by the Fairs and Festivals and Youth departments, under the direction of Rogelio Pascual and Gema Zotano.
This programme full of activities marks the start of one of the most beloved and eagerly awaited festivals in our town, a celebration that brings residents and visitors together around the culture of the grape harvest.
