Plaza de los Naranjos to become more accessible with removal of the fountain

-

Manilva Town Hall continues work on the comprehensive refurbishment of the Plaza de los Naranjos. The mayor, José Manuel Fernández, and the Infrastructure councillor, Agustín Vargas, visited the area in July to inspect the new design, which they say will be more comfortable, more usable and in line with accessibility criteria.

Having completed all the administrative procedures, the project has been approved and the tendering process for the works begins today, with an execution period of 3 months.

Among the changes, the most notable is the removal of the central fountain, as its deterioration «or lack of maintenance», together with problems caused by drought, they say, make it unviable for it to be put to good use. The existing planter will also disappear under the new project, to be replaced by a decorative feature.

According to the tender specifications, the location of the fountain means that the square cannot be used in its entirety, while its operation is also very often hampered by the weather conditions in the area.

The proposed work involves a series of tasks, including the demolition of the existing surface fountain and its replacement with a walkable fountain at the far end of the square. The aim is to make better use of the square’s surface area, for the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors.

Municipal officials say they are very pleased that these projects are going ahead and that work can begin in 2025.
