According to the Town Hall, the aim is to continue improving the accessibility, appearance and functionality of various strategic locations in the municipality. The planned works include the modernisation and optimisation of Aurora de Albornoz street. The project involves a comprehensive improvement of the urban environment, with the aim of updating infrastructure and adapting the street to current mobility and service needs.
PLAZA DE LOS NARANJOS
Another key point is the work on Plaza de Los Naranjos, a recently renovated square which is to be fully pedestrianised, with this new renovation removing more parking spaces which, according to the mayor, will be recovered through a reorganisation of the rest of the street. The redesign will include new trees and street furniture, seeking to create a more pleasant, accessible space geared towards enjoyment by residents.
In addition, from the junction with Avenida Andalucía to Miguel Hernández street, the plan is to introduce two-way traffic on Aurora de Albornoz street, reorganising the 32 existing parking spaces so that both parallel and angled parking is possible, and so that the 15 parking spaces lost after the latest renovations of Plaza de los Naranjos can be recovered. Speaking to RTV Manilva, the mayor, Mario Jimenez, said: «it is important that we keep winning ground from the car».
The plan also includes the installation of more modern lighting and the reorganisation of the existing plant species.
PLAZA DEL GRECO
In the Acapulco area, Plaza del Greco will be the subject of a larger-scale project. Work will begin in September, so as not to interfere with the summer season.
This space, of 1,310 square metres, will have paving in keeping with the last section of the seafront promenade, and will include a cooling area with misters, shaded areas and portico-style and boomerang-style benches.
The project provides for a reorganisation of the vegetation, retaining most of what is there and transplanting with particular care any species in poor condition. The sculpture of the ship that presides over the square, one of the most emblematic features of the area, will also be restored.
