Ordinary council meeting held with no mention of the IBI

-

Manilva Town Hall held an ordinary council meeting today with an agenda of 16 items, including the approval of accounts, security agreements and various motions. The session began with the approval of the minutes of the previous session, held on 5 June 2025.

No comment on the IBI

Although the session was a long one, lasting more than three hours, none of those present made any comment on the IBI (property tax) bills that have begun to arrive at residents’ homes and that include no reduction, as approved at the council meeting held on 21 November thanks to the votes of Compromiso Manilva, PSOE and VOX.

We recall that Compromiso Manilva posted on its social media: «The motion presented at the extraordinary council meeting by Compromiso Manilva on the reduction of the Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles (IBI) for the residents of the municipality has been approved.
«Thanks to Compromiso Manilva, the residents of Manilva will see a ⬇️📉 reduction in their IBI bill for 2025».

For its part, VOX did the same through a press release in which it announced that «Following the acceptance of an amendment submitted by the VOX Manilva Municipal Group, the Town Hall approved, at the recent Extraordinary Council Meeting, a reduction of the Impuesto sobre Bienes Inmuebles (IBI) to 0.5%. This measure seeks to ease the tax burden on Manilva residents ahead of the future mandatory introduction of the rubbish charge planned for 2025. The vote was carried with 9 votes in favour and 8 against.

Antonio Marín, VOX spokesperson in Manilva, welcomed the decision, stressing that «his group’s amendment was key to adding a second point to the original motion». This point calls for «the drawing up of a new municipal adjustment plan that includes the aforementioned IBI reduction».»

Neither the governing team has given any explanation nor has the opposition asked any question on this issue, which is so important to residents.

Tributes and financial management

The council meeting set aside an emotional moment to recognise the careers of two council employees who are retiring: Isabel Mena Quirós and Antonio Benítez Ríos.

On financial matters, the 2024 General Account of GEUMA was given final approval. In addition, out-of-court recognitions of debt were approved for several files, including invoices from Bahía de las Rocas and other general invoices.

Security and housing

One of the most important items was the approval of the agreement between the Ministry of the Interior (Directorate General of the Guardia Civil) and Manilva Town Hall on security matters.

The application of decree-law 1/2025 of 24 February, which establishes urgent housing measures, was also discussed.

Motions and agreements

The council meeting debated and voted on several motions. Of note was the one presented by the VOX municipal group, which seeks to guarantee public, free and professional educational support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

A vote was also held on the council’s motion to request the Police Merit Medal posthumously for officer Antonio Ramos Pérez and to grant him municipal recognition.

Finally, the council was informed of the change to the dedication regime of councillor Laura Salazar Díaz and of the economic and financial information for the second quarter of 2025. The session ended with urgent matters and the time for requests and questions.
