Municipal elections are approaching, and with them come more announcements of projects and investments that have been absent throughout the whole term of office. According to statements made to RTV Manilva (there is currently no official publication of such a major project), Manilva Town Hall is working on one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects of the current term: the construction of a new underground public car park in the centre of Manilva that will be integrated with a state-of-the-art 7-a-side football pitch on the upper level. The project will involve an investment of close to €2.5 million and aims to address two of the municipality’s main needs: the lack of parking spaces and the growth of youth football.
This was announced by Manilva Town Hall councillor Juan Carlos Morejón, who explained that the initiative was part of the commitments made during the election campaign and of the governing agreement, although the project has evolved to offer a more complete solution.
«One of the nicest projects we are tackling this term is the construction of a double-height 7-a-side football pitch, with a public car park on its ground floor», said the councillor, stressing that the intention is «to kill two birds with one stone» by using a single investment to resolve two long-standing problems in the municipality.
The facility will be located on the current court B of the Municipal Sports Centre in the centre of Manilva, a municipally owned space which, according to a technical report from the Sports department, is currently used less than expected. A two-level building will be constructed on this site, with a public car park on the lower level and a new 7-a-side football pitch on the upper level.
Morejón explained that the project is already at an advanced stage of preparation. In recent days a working meeting was held, attended by those responsible for Town Planning, Public Works and Sports, municipal technicians and the mayor of Manilva, to review the latest changes before formally commissioning the technical work and awaiting the funding expected in the coming weeks.
The governing team believes the project will ease the parking problems regularly experienced around the sports centre, especially during training sessions and sports competitions, while also expanding facilities that, in the councillor’s own words, «have become too small» because of the growth of football in the municipality.
The councillor also said that he has held several meetings with representatives of Unión Manilva, who have conveyed to him the high demand for this sport, both in the youth categories and among the other teams. In this regard, he stated that the new football pitch will make it possible to improve the planning of training sessions and to respond to the increase in sports licences seen in recent years.
