Manilva Town Hall is stepping up its efforts on public safety through a new meeting held this morning between the mayor, José Manuel Fernández, the lieutenant of the Guardia Civil in Manilva, Jorge Melón, and chief sergeant Juan Carlos Peinado, among others. According to municipal sources, the main aim of the meeting was to move forward with the Local Safety Plan and to address the need to improve the facilities of the Guardia Civil post in the town.
According to the statement issued by the town council, Mayor Fernández expressed his intention to «continue talks with the various authorities responsible so that the Manilva post is considered a main post». However, this statement quickly prompted a reaction from the opposition through Antonio Marín «VOX», who used social media to clarify that the Guardia Civil post already has the status of «Main Post» (Puesto Principal) since 1 September 2023, according to a resolution published in the Guardia Civil’s Official Gazette.
VOX has pointed out that the problem lies in the barracks’ current facilities, which do not meet the necessary conditions to provide the post with the staff and equipment that correspond to its «Main Post» status. The party has urged the Town Hall to acknowledge this reality and to focus its efforts on finding solutions to improve the facilities, rather than continuing to seek recognition of a status that it already holds.
At the meeting, the mayor and the Guardia Civil representatives discussed the force’s most recent actions and explored possible improvements to strengthen safety in the town. The officers, representing the Guardia Civil, expressed their full willingness to work with the Town Hall in this regard.
This exchange of statements highlights the importance of addressing the shortcomings in the facilities of the Guardia Civil post in the town, which will have a direct impact on significantly improving the safety of Manilva’s residents.
