More material and human resources called for to improve security

-

The secretary general of the PP in Málaga and Andalusian parliamentarian, José Ramón Carmona, today denounced the «alarming» shortage of police officers on the Costa del Sol and called on the Spanish Government to address the «new model of crime and how drug trafficking is moving across the entire Mediterranean corridor».

He said this alongside the mayor of Manilva, José Manuel Fernández, where he pointed to the shortage of officers and material resources suffered by the province. He also asked the Government Sub-delegate in Málaga to respond to the Manilva mayor’s repeated request for a meeting to address the lack of personnel and material resources for security on the Costa del Sol.

«More police officers and more material resources and infrastructure are needed, and we are asking the competent authority, which is the Ministry of the Interior, and the Government Sub-delegate in the province,» Carmona insisted, adding that «failing to address this new reality seems to us clearly irresponsible».

In this regard, he said: «We see narco-boats operating along the Costa del Sol and the Cádiz coast, which requires a firm response from the central government. We are demanding it in a calm but firm manner, as residents should know that the Partido Popular and, specifically, the mayor of Manilva cares about his neighbours and is demanding firm measures», he stressed, warning that «it is not enough to say that we are within acceptable crime rates.»

The secretary general of the PP in Málaga praised «the climate of stability that the municipality now enjoys thanks to the governing work of a mayor who has turned it around completely, solving residents’ problems and also demanding action from other authorities».

Along these lines, Carmona highlighted Fernández’s ability to reach agreements and the stability achieved at the Town Hall: «We now have the guarantee of a solid, stable and solvent town hall, with Manilva a municipality destined to lead the attraction of investment and the creation of jobs and opportunities on the Costa del Sol».

For his part, Fernández asked the Sub-delegate «to respond to this mayor’s request so that I can explain to him face to face what the needs are and the concerns of Manilva’s residents, as well as what solutions we can offer them».

«It is difficult for a mayor to respond on security matters when there is a clear neglect of duty by the competent authority, which is the Spanish Government, in terms of security», he added.

He went on to say that the main Guardia Civil station lacks the staffing and resources it needs, while the Local Police have a depleted workforce and are working in conditions that cannot be stretched any further: «I express my gratitude to the State Security Forces and Corps, who are doing all they can, but I insist on asking the Government Sub-delegate in Málaga to receive this mayor so that I can set out the situation and what we are asking for», he concluded.
