The spokesman for the VOX Manilva Municipal Group, Antonio Marín, stressed on Wednesday that VOX is the only party that accounts to the municipal auditor, thereby justifying the expenses incurred from the funds provided by the municipal coffers.
Marín criticised the fact that Partido Popular, Compromiso Manilva, Izquierda Unida and PSOE decided not to vote in favour of VOX’s motion for all municipal groups to justify their expenses quarterly, as required by the Local Government Framework Act (Ley de Bases de Régimen Local) and the General Subsidies Act (Ley General de Subvenciones).
«In Manilva, we find that only VOX accounts to the municipal auditor,» Marín explained. «Our group makes its internal accounts available to the auditor every two months because we have nothing to hide. But what about the rest of the political parties? Why do they not make their expenses public? What are they hiding?» the VOX spokesman asked.
According to Antonio Marín, the residents of Manilva have the right to know how the municipality’s political parties spend money. «We have a responsibility to make correct and efficient use of public spending. Partido Popular, Compromiso Manilva, Izquierda Unida and PSOE may not be doing so, and that is why they do not want to present their accounts quarterly,« he added.
Despite this, Marín wanted to make it clear that the VOX Manilva Municipal Group will continue working to ensure that all political groups make their expenses public «so that the people of Manilva know how the money provided from the municipal coffers is spent».
