The Regulatory Council of the Designations of Origin ‘Málaga’, ‘Sierras de Málaga’ and ‘Pasas de Málaga’, with the support of the Diputación Provincial de Málaga (Málaga Provincial Council), is launching the second edition of ‘Málaga, la mar de vinos’, a food and wine event that will run from 15 September to 1 October.
It is a tour of the wines with DO Málaga and DO Sierras de Málaga and the most traditional seafaring cuisine, available in 20 restaurants along the Málaga coast, as announced on Wednesday by the president of the Diputación, Francisco Salado, together with the president of the Regulatory Council, José María Losantos.
From Manilva to Nerja, some twenty restaurants are taking part in this initiative, in which the public will be able to enjoy a selection of wines with designation of origin Málaga or Sierras de Málaga, along with the dishes from each restaurant’s own repertoire of seafaring cuisine. These range from embers-grilled espetos (sardine skewers) and fish stews to the renowned ‘pescaíto frito’ (fried fish).
The initiative, which will feature 90 wines from 29 wineries across the province, forms part of the Council’s general aims of promoting awareness, knowledge and consumption of wines with designation of origin in Málaga’s restaurants.
In this regard, Salado referred to the efforts of the Diputación de Málaga, through Sabor a Málaga, to encourage the province’s hospitality businesses to include Málaga wines with designation of origin on their menus. He also highlighted the close collaboration between the Regulatory Council and the Diputación: «We see the Regulatory Council as our main ally, which is why we signed a collaboration agreement many years ago to launch numerous joint initiatives».
«Synergy and, above all, a collaborative spirit are the real backbone of this new promotional action by the Council, with which we aim to give even greater value to wines with designation of origin in our own province», explained the Council’s president, José María Losantos, who also stressed the importance of «strengthening ties with hospitality owners so that wines with DO Málaga and Sierras de Málaga are always on their tables».
