Manilva once again tops the list of the highest temperatures in Spain this Saturday, for the third consecutive day, according to data recorded by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
On Thursday, the Manilva weather station reached 35.3 degrees, on Friday it hit 36.6º, and this Saturday the thermometer came close to 35.5º again, placing the town once more at the top of the national heat ranking.
These figures are historic for the end of October, a month in which maximum temperatures on the Costa del Sol are usually around 22-24 degrees. According to AEMET’s historical records, temperatures this high had not been reached in Manilva in October for more than three decades, specifically since 1991, when 34.8º was recorded.
Experts attribute this exceptional episode to a mass of warm air from North Africa, combined with easterly winds that favour the overheating of the air along the western coast of Málaga province.
The phenomenon has led to yellow-level warnings for high temperatures in several parts of the province.
If the weather forecasts for the coming days are confirmed, this Sunday could mark the end of this spell of abnormal heat, with a gradual drop in temperatures and the arrival of cooler air from the Atlantic that could bring some rain at the start of the week.
