The Urban Planning and Sports departments, in coordination with Youth and Festivities, report on the start of the project to transform the fairground on carretera del río Manilva into a leisure area.
Following the signing of the start of works, which represent an investment of 193,372 euros, repairs are already under way on the areas of paving that are in poor condition, after which the sports areas will be painted on this space of more than 11,000 m².
Once the sports areas have been marked out, equipment such as basketball hoops, goals, nets, etc. will be installed. It will be removable, as the intention is for the site itself to be able to host other events such as the August Fair or concerts, among others, so that the maximum use can be made of this space.
Aside from the car park, which is not affected by the project, there will be an area for a kiosk, traditional games areas, dodgeball, the handkerchief game, a cycling gymkhana, a skate park, volleyball, calisthenics, skating, two tennis courts, two basketball courts, two five-a-side football courts and a cycle lane, all surrounded by the athletics track.
Marcos Ruiz and Manolo Gil, councillors for Urban Planning and Sports, together with the area director, Pilar Zúñiga, have visited the site, where work is now under way after the planning issues were resolved so that the plot, of 4.5 hectares, becomes municipal property, allowing investment to improve it.
Our municipality will gain another attraction to add to those already existing, for the enjoyment of residents and visitors.
Municipal officials also report that the company Gestiona is in charge of carrying out this work, which will be completed by the end of this year.
